The NYS building code (R303.4) requires whole house mechanical ventilation in all new homes.
- New homes are designed to be as air tight as possible in order to conserve energy.
- It’s possible for the home to become stale and unhealthy when windows and doors are kept closed for long periods of time.
- The whole house mechanical ventilation system is designed to provide the minimum amount of safe and clean breathing air for occupants during those periods.
- Since the fan is not affected by wind, drafts, or stack effect, the maximum amount of energy savings is possible while still having a safe home through the use of mechanical ventilation.
